At the beginning of XX century the use of two-stroke engines had spread rapidly also in the sector of small pleasure boats, thanks to their constructive simplicity and their ease of use and maintenance, which made them particularly suitable for creating groups light and compact outboard motor-drivers. The Swedish Aktiebolaget Archimedes was one of the most renowned manufacturers of these engines thanks also to some successes in sporting competitions. In 1914 the Archimedes company proposed two models, the 2 HP BS and the 5 HP BS-2, for small pleasure boats up to about 10 meters in length. In Italy, its models were marketed by the Italian-Swedish Industrial Society based in Genoa.
